125cc Bikes and Scooters
To ride a moped on the road you must be at least 16 years of age and have a driving licence that entitles you to ride mopeds (Category P).
To ride a 125 motorcycle or scooter you must be at least 17 years of age and have a driving licence that entitles you to ride motorcycle provisional (Category A).
Category A with 2 year qualifiying period; 125cc motorcycle or twist and go scooter.
This will be obtained by passing the motorcycle test on a motorcycle of between 121 cc and 125 cc and capable of at least 100km/h (62.5 mph). This also applies to twist and go scooters.
Riders who are subject to the two-year qualifying period will be restricted to machines of 25 KW (33 bhp) maximum and a power to weight ratio not exceeding 0.16 KW/kg for two years from the date of passing their test. At the end of that time any size of motorcycle may be ridden without taking another test.
